Andy Cruise
Born in London, Andy got bitten by the dance music Bug in the early nineties and really started to Learn and Love the music revolution that continues to this day. Despite being regularly exposed to other genres of Dance like Hardcore, Techno, Jungle and Drum & Bass Andy fell in Love with the uplifting Vocal lead House that began to cross into mainstream music. This continued into the mid nineties where a chance trip to the now closed party venue, Adrenalin Village Andy discovered the dubby, sexy and more minimal in nature Bumpy House created by people like Grant Nelson, Victor Simoneli, Mike Delgado and Joey Musaphia. This was really where it all started for Andy as it wasn't enough to just hear the tunes in a nightclub or even on Radio, Andy was out weekly buying the tunes he fell in Love whilst partying the weekend before and discovering a knack for for spotting Anthems in the making and future Classics. Andy continued his affair with the Underground House & Garage scene when it evolved into 2 Step then Breakbeat but also maintained his Love for the more traditional House sound that he was initially inticed by.
As his knowledge increased so did his skills on the turntables pushing Andy from the bedroom into the bars and nightclubs and the London airwaves gaining his first ever Radio show on Supreme FM with former musical partner Wayne Eliot who really helped Andy with developing as a Deejay. That year Andy also played at Kingston's underground Bar Carmody's, the Hammersmith Palais, as well as venues in Bedfordshire. Getting a lucky break Andy landed a role as a principal buyer managing a small independent record shop in South West London selling out of his picks weekly. Over the years his popularity grew and resulted in playing on Radio stations like Taste Fm & Delight Fm and holding down residencies at venues like Club Vision, Po Na Na's, Browns, Shssh Rooms & the infamous Chunnel Club.
As clubland in the UK evolved his bookings playing House which were initially less frequent increased as his UK Garage bookings decreased. This is where things really got interesting for Andy as he went from being a rookie in a new scene to a veteran of an old one. Andy fast became known for playing cutting edge music and experimental beats. Starting his House Metropolis parties in 2005 and Funkatron in 2007, Andy forged a name as a promoter who made atmosphere and music his main priority. Putting on events at The Yacht Club, Area, and his secret Brixton Venue. At his peak he was playing between 3 - 5 venues a week playing Jackin, Deep, Soulful & Funky House on bills alongside Paul Trouble Anderson, Colin Dale, Booker T, Brasstooth, Fanatix, Kenny Dope, Eddie Leader & Soul Purpose playing at events such as The Sea Sessions in Ireland, The Soul Village Weekender, Baldeelox, Smitten, Spreadlove, and numerous other parties.
Now Andy is more involved in music than ever working with the Legendary Nice N Ripe and doing Club consultancy work. Andy hosts a succesful weekly radio show on the multi award winning Flex Fm, and does podcasts on the notorious Underground Sessions. in 2014 he now looks forward to his 'Nu Old School Disco' residency and the return of his Funkatron parties with bookings in the pipeline for Ireland, Switzerland and the US Andy is always someone to take time out to listen to.
